Slow Cooker Marinated Silverside

Slow Cooker Marinated Silverside.  Soft, juicy meat covered in a smoky, sweet sauce — and you only need six things to make it happen. Coca-Cola in a meat recipe? Mustard and barbecue sauce together? It sounded a little strange, honestly. But wow — I was totally wrong. After eight hours in the slow cooker, the silverside came out so soft you could cut it with a spoon. The sauce was rich and just a tiny bit sweet, but not in a sugary way. It tasted like something you’d get at a really good restaurant, not something you threw together in ten minutes before heading out the door. Now it’s one of those recipes I come back to again and again, especially when I want to impress people without doing a ton of work.

Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 piece of silverside
  • 0.5 cups brown sugar
  • 0.5 cups barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons American mustard
  • 1 piece tomato paste (50g sachet)
  • 1 cup Coca-Cola

Slow Cooker Marinated Silverside: Directions

  1. Wash and dry the meat: Give your 1 piece of silverside a good rinse under cold water, then pat it dry with a paper towel. This helps the marinade stick to the meat better.
  2. Mix the marinade: In a bowl, mix together the 0.5 cups brown sugar, 0.5 cups barbecue sauce, 2 tablespoons American mustard, 1 piece tomato paste (50g sachet), and 1 cup Coca-Cola. Stir it all together until everything is well mixed and looks like a smooth sauce.
  3. Place meat in slow cooker: Put the silverside into your slow cooker with the fat side facing down. This helps keep the meat nice and juicy while it cooks.
  4. Pour marinade over meat: Pour your sauce all over the top of the silverside. Make sure it covers the meat well. Put the lid on.
  5. Cook on LOW for 8 hours: Set your slow cooker to LOW and let it cook for 480 minutes 480:00. Every 2 hours, open the lid and spoon some of the sauce from the bottom back over the top of the meat. This is called basting, and it keeps the meat tasty and moist.
  6. Serve: Once the meat is done, it should be really soft and easy to slice or pull apart. Spoon plenty of that yummy sauce over the top when you serve it!

Notes

Handy tips:

  • Basting every 2 hours makes a big difference — don’t skip it if you can help it!
  • Coca-Cola helps tenderize the meat and adds a subtle sweetness without making it taste like a soft drink.
  • Great served with mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, or a simple salad.
  • Leftovers are fantastic in sandwiches the next day.
  • If you can’t find a 50g tomato paste sachet, just use about 3 tablespoons from a tube or tin.
