Slow cooker mulled wine. Yum!
Made this for a party I had last weekend and it was a big hit with my girlfriends on such a chilly night around the bonfire.
Ingredients:
– 1 bottle of red wine (750ml)
– 1 Orange (sliced)
– 3 cinnamon sticks
– 5 cloves, whole
– 1 star anise, whole
– Honey to taste, 2 tbsp (depends how sweet you like it)
– A few shakes of ground cinnamon and nutmeg
Optional: 1/4 cup of brandy
Optional: brown sugar if you like it more sweet, I personally don’t
Directions:
Put everything in, stir, cover and cook on low for a few hours as you drink it. I stirred occasionally. My slow cooker has a ‘warm’ option so I turned it to that after about 3 hrs from the start so it was a comfortable temp for girls to help themselves and drink through the night.
Note: cooking time and heat setting will vary depending on individual slow cookers. Alcohol content will be reduced as it evaporates if it reaches boiling point so don’t overheat (or do, if that’s what you’re after). To strengthen this drink it’s also nice with a shot/half shot of brandy or spiced rum in the glasses as you serve.
Double/triple the recipe as needed. I tripled it and there wasn’t a drop left by night’s end. Enjoy!
