Smoky BBQ Chicken Drumsticks

Smoky BBQ Chicken Drumsticks. This chicken dinner is great for the whole family and won’t cost you a lot of money! It’s easy to make and tastes amazing. The best part? You can eat it any time of year! When it’s cold outside, try it with soft mashed potatoes and some cooked green veggies. When it’s warm and sunny, it goes perfectly with grilled corn on the cob and creamy coleslaw.

What You Need

Chicken:

  • 1kg chicken drumsticks

For the Marinade (the yummy sauce):

  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 2 teaspoons garlic
  • 1 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses (you can use brown sugar or maple syrup instead)
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke (this is okay to leave out — see the tip below!)
  • A little bit of salt and pepper

How to Make Smoky BBQ Chicken

  1. Coat the chicken — Pour the marinade all over the drumsticks and mix it around so every piece is covered.
  2. Let it soak (if you have time!) — The longer the chicken sits in the sauce, the tastier it gets!
  3. Put it in the slow cooker — Place the coated drumsticks inside.
  4. Cook it low and slow — Cook on low for 5 to 6 hours, OR on high for 2 to 3 hours.
  5. Serve and enjoy! 🍗

Helpful Tip

Don’t have liquid smoke? No worries! Just add a little extra smoked paprika, or pick a BBQ sauce from the store that already has a smoky taste. Easy fix!
