French Onion Braised Steak. Slow cooked in the slow cooker at a low temperature for 8 hours, then served with potato gems and haricots verts fried, it was the Creme de la creme.

Equipment

  • 5L slow cooker

  • Frying Pan

  • BBQ Grill

French Onion Braised Steak: Ingredients

  • 1.1 kg Cattleman’s cut steak

  • Seasoning steak with salt and pepper.

  • Flour to dust steak

  • 2 Brown onions sliced

  • 2 Cloves garlic

  • 1 cup Red wine

  • Worcestershire sauce

  • Splash of Worcestershire sauce.

  • Some sprigs of fresh thyme.

  • 2 Bay leaves

  • A splash of olive oil

  • A pat of butter

  • 1 Packet of Italian soup mix stewed in onions.

  • 2 Carrots, diced

  • 6 Mushrooms in half (placed half way through)

Instructions

  1. Cube steak and dust with salt and pepper and flour.

  2. It was browned on a hot grill on the BBQ and then put into the slow cooker.

  3. Caramelize onions that are sliced in a frying pan and cooked on low heat in a frying pan with garlic and add to the slow cooker.

  4. Place all the other ingredients into slow cooker (except mushrooms that are added in the middle of the cooking process).

  5. Slow cook for 8hrs on low.
