CrockPot Split pea soup

Split pea soup is one of my favorites.

If you disagree that it’s delicious, you’re wrong.

Recipe

Ham bone from leftover ham, most meat removed and set aside. Half onion and 3 stalks of celery. Cover with half water half low sodium chicken broth. Cook on low ALL day lol.

Remove bones, add split peas red potatoes another half onion and carrots. Cook on high 3 hours.

Add reserved ham and cook another half hour or so.

Serving it with cheese and sourdough bread.

Member Question…. Never done it in slow cooker before do you add lentils and do they not stick?

Answer…. No never sticks. I don’t use lentils just split peas. I’m in America so perhaps we call it something different.

 Pea and Ham Soup Recipe

Just blitzed my pea and ham soup now ready to put the ham back in

Ingredients

1 brown onion finely diced
2 carrots chopped
2 celery sticks chopped
2 cups yellow split peas rinsed
1 bay leaf
10 cups water


Method
Place split peas on the bottom of a slow cooker.
Add carrots, celery, onion, ham hock & bay leaf.
Cover with water.
Cook on high for 4-6 hours, or 6-8 hours on low or until meat will fall off the bone easily.
Remove bone, discard fat and skin. blitz soup Chop meat and return to soup. Stir then serve.

Gammon, carrot, parsnip, swede, split pea and vegetable stock stew

Gammon, carrot, parsnip, swede, split pea and vegetable stock stew, slow cooked for 8 hours on high. The gammon fell apart.

Ingredients:
750g unsmoked gammon joint
250g split pea
Whole sliced swede
6 sliced carrots
4 sliced parsnips
1 quartered red onion
Veg stock pot
Water

Methods:

Chopped all the vegetables. Placed the gammon in the slow cooker. Poured on split peas. Added all vegetables. Put in the stock pot. Added water.

Turned slow cooker on to high and left it overnight for approx 8 hours. Scooped vegetables into lunch boxes. Carefully took gammon out of slow cooker. Scattered gammon evenly between the lunch boxes.
