Ingredients

1 kg oyster blade steak (or cheap stew meat like diced steak or brisket—check notes)

3 tablespoons creamy mild American mustard from a bottle

3 tablespoons brown sugar

2 big tablespoons plain flour

Salt and pepper

1/2 cup tomato sauce or ketchup (low-sugar or regular)

1/8 cup soy sauce (low-salt or regular)

1 big brown onion, sliced thin

(2 large plastic freezer bags)
Nanny’s Braised Steak: Directions

Put mustard and sugar in one freezer bag.

Add raw steak pieces. Shake and rub to cover them well with the mix.

In the second bag, add flour. Sprinkle in salt and pepper.

Pour steak from first bag into flour bag. Shake to coat lightly.

Take out steak and place in slow cooker (in one layer if it fits).

Add sliced onion on top.

Mix sauces together and pour over everything.

Cook on low for 5 hours.
Helpful Notes

Works great with diced beef or brisket (slice or pull apart after).

Pair with veggies and mashed potatoes—spoon gravy on top!

No water needed 🙂 Some folks add 1/2 cup if they like, but it’s not required.
