Slow Cooker Gammon

Slow Cooker Gammon. YUM

Tonight’s dinner was absolutely lush. 1st attempt at gammon in the slow cooker taken ideas from reading posts on slow cooking UK & it hasn’t disappointed.

Ingredients:

2 kg Gammon
4 tablespoons English mustard
4 tablespoons Honey
salt & pepper

Directions:

Soaked overnight in water to remove excess salt

**NO ADDED LIQUID REQUIRED**
Smothered in a mixture of English mustard 4tblspns, honey 4 tbsps. salt & pepper then cooked on low for 7.5 hours.

Slow Cooker Gammon

Removed from slow cooker scored the top of the joint then basted with mustard, honey and brown sugar (not alot of sugar as this is just to make the glaze crisp) & popped into a hot oven for 15 minutes then last of mixture basted on again then another 10/15 minutes to glaze & crisp.
I also used the juices that was in the slow cooker to make a gravy with some bisto.
Served with home made mash tatties, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and veg.
Not a peep at dinner & clean plates all round.
Can anyone advise what I could use the leftover gammon for? 😋

Notes:

Question….    How much water did you put in the SC with it ?

Answer…..        Absolutely none as I had soaked it all night to get rid of the excess salt & with the honey and mustard as well as it’s own juices it didn’t need anymore liquid. There was a fair amount once it was cooked which I used to make a gravy x

Question….        I’ve always boiled my gammon before roasting. Did you just put it in cold water and leave it covered overnight and it done the same thing? Looks delish x

Answer…..         Yeah I changed the water twice but it was still slightly salty but nothing overpowering if it wasn’t soaked. Was so lovely. Really delighted with the outcome xx I just put it on a large bowl of cold water left uncovered changed water twice and it was lovely x

Question….         What honey did u use looks lush xx

Answer…..         From Asda or Tesco. Just what I had in the cupboard x

Question…       Look amazing could you taste the mustard much as I’d love to do this but not sure my kids would like it x

Answer…..        No not at all, my son loved it so definitely kid friendly x

Question….     May I ask if you used any liquid at all of if it was just the honey and mustard? Would love to try this! Xx

Answer….         No additional liquid. Between the juices from the joint and the honey and mustard it really doesn’t need anything. Was so moist, juicy and tender x

Question….     Was the gravy not really salty.

Answer….          It was a little salty but not too much as had soaked joint in cold water before cooking it to remove excess salt.. You could just make your own gravy without using the juices if you preferred x
