Steak and Kidney. This is one of the favourite dishes of hubby. A hearty and comforting slow cooker dish made with tender beef, kidney, mushrooms, and rich gravy. This traditional meal is perfect served with mashed potatoes and boiled vegetables or used as a filling for a pie.

Ingredients

800-1000 grams gravy beef, diced

300-400 grams beef kidney, diced

200 grams mushrooms, sliced

1 onion, sliced

3 heaped tbsp gravy mix/powder

2 tbsp worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp tomato paste

1/2 cup shiraz wine (see notes)

1/2 cup beef stock liquid
-
1 tsp crushed garlic
-
1 tsp dried rosemary
-
1 tsp dried thyme
-
4 bay leaves
Steak and Kidney: Instructions

Chop onion into pieces and add to slow cooker.

Add beef in gravy powder and put this meat in the slow cooker together with mushrooms.

Add kidney on top.

Combine sauce, tomato paste, wine, stock, herbs and garlic and pour over.

Cook on low for 5 hours (see note).

Shred bay leaves and put in with a plate of mashed potatoes and boiled vegetables. Also goes great in a pie!
NOTES

If you don’t want to use wine. Simply substitute the beef stock with more beef stock.

My Sunbeam Secret Chef 5.5L. took 5 hours (because it operates on the hot side) to cook so it might require more time in a smaller or slower cooker.
