Slow Cooker Porridge

Slow Cooker Porridge. You just throw everything in, put the lid on, and let it do its thing. No standing at the stove, no stirring every few minutes — just simple, warm, creamy oats waiting for you when you are ready. The sweet medjool dates melt right into the porridge as it cooks, and the cinnamon makes your whole kitchen smell amazing. It is the kind of breakfast that feels like a big, warm hug on a cold morning. You can put almost anything on top — honey, fruit, nuts, yoghurt — whatever makes you happy. It is a great meal for kids and grown-ups alike! Warm, creamy oat porridge made right in your small slow cooker with sweet dates and cozy cinnamon — a gentle, filling breakfast that practically cooks itself!

Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 cup quick cook oats
  • 2 cups milk (or non-dairy milk)
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 3 pieces large fresh medjool dates, pit removed and chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoons cinnamon

Slow Cooker Porridge Making Steps

  1. Add everything to the slow cooker: Put the 1 cups quick cook oats, 2 cups milk (or non-dairy milk), 1 cups hot water, 1 pinch of salt, 3 pieces large fresh medjool dates, pit removed and chopped, and 0.5 teaspoons cinnamon all together into your 1.5L slow cooker. Do not add any toppings yet — those go on at the very end!
  2. Cook on high: Put the lid on and set your slow cooker to HIGH. Let it cook for about 70 minutes

. Every slow cooker is a little bit different, so keep a small eye on it to make sure the porridge stays creamy and does not dry out or get too thick. If you are using a bigger slow cooker, it will be less full and might cook a little faster, so check it a bit earlier.
  3. Serve with your favourite toppings: Spoon the warm porridge into bowls. Drizzle some honey on top, then add whatever toppings you like — banana slices, fresh berries, a spoonful of coconut yoghurt, or a handful of nuts. You really cannot go wrong here, so have fun with it!
