Beef Strips in Sweet Soy Sauce. Make this tasty dish! Tender meat cooks slow with onions, garlic, and special sweet soy (not regular kind). Coat in flour, brown it up, then simmer low for hours. Top with green onions and seeds. Perfect over brown rice for dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg gravy or chuck beef

  • 2-3 tbsp plain flour (to cover the beef)

  • 1 onion, cut into thin slices

  • 2 beef stock cubes

  • 1 cup hot water

  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped small

  • 1/2 cup sweet soy sauce called Kecap Manis, which is sweeter and thicker than normal soy sauce.

  • Shallots and sesame seeds (to top it)

Beef Strips in Sweet Soy Sauce: Directions

  1. Cut beef into thin strips, like for stir-fry.

  2. Put beef in a bag with flour. Shake it to cover all the beef.

  3. Heat a slow cooker or pan. Add beef and onion. Cook until brown and sealed.

  4. Put beef back in slow cooker (or add if you started there).

  5. Mix stock cubes, hot water, garlic, and sweet soy sauce. Stir well.

  6. Pour mix over beef. Cook on low for 3 hours.

  7. Stir halfway if you can (fine if not).

  8. When done, top with chopped shallots and sesame seeds.

  9. Serve with brown rice.
