Ingredients

  • 500g braising steak, cut into small cubes
  • ¼ cup cornflour
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 200ml water
  • 3 tbsp good-quality black bean sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 brown onion, cut into quarters
  • 1 green pepper, roughly chopped
  • ½ cup chopped spring onion

Slow Cooker Beef in Black Bean Sauce: Instructions

  1. Cut the steak into small, even cubes. Place the pieces into a bowl with the cornflour and toss them around until every piece is fully coated.
  2. Heat the sesame oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the coated beef and cook it in small batches, turning the pieces until they turn a light brown color on the outside.
  3. Once browned, move the beef pieces into the slow cooker.
  4. Add the water, black bean sauce, soy sauce, quartered onion, and chopped green pepper into the slow cooker with the beef. Stir everything together gently so it’s well mixed, but save the spring onion for later.
  5. Put the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours, until the beef is soft and tender.
  6. A few minutes before you are ready to serve, sprinkle the chopped spring onion over the top and stir it in gently.
  7. Serve the beef hot over a bowl of steamed rice.
