This Char Siu Style Roast Pork is sweet, sticky, and so soft it falls apart. A sweet honey and soy sauce mix soaks into the meat overnight. The slow cooker cooks it until it is soft and ready to eat. It’s an easy, yummy dinner the whole family will love, with rich Asian flavors in every single bite.

Ingredients
- 1 large piece of pork roast (about 1.5kg)
- ⅓ cup hoisin sauce
- ⅓ cup honey
- ⅓ cup low salt soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- ½ teaspoon Chinese Five Spice
- 1.5 teaspoons red food colouring
Char Siu Style Roast Pork: Instructions
- Get your pork ready. Leave the fat and skin on the meat, but cut off and remove any netting or string. Place the pork into a large zip-lock bag or an oven bag.
- In a bowl, mix together the hoisin sauce, honey, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, brown sugar, minced garlic, Chinese Five Spice, and red food colouring until well combined.
- Pour this sauce mixture over the pork inside the bag.
- Twist or zip the bag closed tightly so it won’t leak. Place the bag inside a large bowl, just in case any sauce drips out.
- Put the bowl with the pork in the fridge and let it marinate overnight. This gives the pork time to soak up all the tasty flavors.
- The next day, take the pork out of the bag and place it into your slow cooker with the fat and skin facing up.
- Pour the leftover marinade from the bag over the top of the pork, then throw the empty bag away.
- Put the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6 hours.
- After 6 hours, gently scoop off the fat from the top and throw it away.
- Turn the pork over so the other side is now facing up.
- Cook the pork for 2 more hours on LOW. This makes the total cooking time 8 hours.
- Once the pork is done, take it out and slice it into pieces.
- Spoon a little of the warm cooking juices over the sliced pork before serving.
