Easy Sweet And Sour Meatball Slow Cooker Recipe

I made subway style subs and decided to try the easy sweet and sour meatball slow cooker recipe. You could add a extra tin of tomato’s if you wanted more sauce, I didn’t as the meatballs was going in bread.

For the Sauce

1 can chopped tomatoes
400g passata
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon powdered garlic and onion
1-2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon oregano
3 Tablespoons tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste

Ingredients for the sweet & sour meatballs:

500 grams of beef
500 grams pork mince
50 grams of fresh bread crumbs
1.5 tablespoons of finely chopped onion or onion powder
1.5 tablespoons garlic powder
1 medium egg, beaten
1-2 tablespoon of dried Italian herbs
1 teaspoon of salt and pepper

Work the mince together add the other ingredients and make sure it is all well blended, shape into balls, you can add directly into the slow cooker or fry off for a few minutes.

Instructions
1. Place Italian chopped tomatoes, passata, tomato purée, powdered garlic and onion, Italian seasoning, thyme, oregano, sugar and lemon juice in a blender. Blend until the sauce is smooth and ingredients are combined.
2. In your slow cooker, place meatballs on the bottom (I fried the meatballs off for a few mins) Pour the marinara sauce on top of the meatballs.

Cook on high for 4 hours and low for about 5-6 until meatballs are heated through. (Check after a few hours , you don’t want it drying up)

You can use fresh garlic and onion also instead of powdered.
