Slow Cooker Sticky Honey Chicken

NOTE: If double chicken, double everything but the soy sauce or it does over power the chicken.
I used self raising flour to coast chicken which I think is what gives it the batter look.
If you like your honey chicken very sweet and more the color of this picture use a little less soy and 2 more tbsp. of honey and brown sugar.
All slow cookers are different & cook at different heat, If you can, stay close by to keep an eyes on it to see what time cooking suit your slow cooker. You’ll know when it’s the right amount of “sticky”

Ingredients:

500 gram chicken breast
3 tbsp. honey
1/4 cup light soy sauce
1 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tsp. minced garlic
1/2 small onion
Flour to coat

Directions:

I coated chicken in SR flour and browned it in the pan with some butter over medium heat but do not fully cook through. It gives it the battered texture.
Throw in thinly sliced onion towards the end.
In a bowl mix all other ingredients & throw together with chicken in slow cooker for 2-3 hours on high. Served with rice and vegetables on the side.

******** Sticky Honey Chicken Recipe Notes *********

Question           I made this tonight for the first time and after an hour and 15 on high there was no liquid left at all. How do I get the moist look on the chicken like in the picture?

Answer…..            Some slow cookers cook a lot differently, you could use less time in the slow cooker and add more honey and brown sugar. I used more honey and sugar than usual tonight(picture) and it really stuck to it and made it extra sticky.
Also coating it in the flour first and browning really helps with the texture.

Question….          Do you have tea towel under lid for this recipe or no tea towel.

Answer…..           No tea towel. Also I think 6 hours on low would dry it out. Some people have said they only needed 1.5 hours in the sc. it depends on your slow cooker.

Question…          I’ve made it and it was lovely!! But mine had way more sauce so not so sticky.. How do I get it more like yours??

Answer…..           It may have needed longer in the sc if it was a bit watery. With different temps. I would say take it out when it starts to really stick together so longer if it’s watery and less if it’s starting to dry up too quick if that makes sense haha.

Question…         It looks as tho it has a batter type on it or is that just the flour? 1 question that i cant work out every time i see it lol.

Answer….           I coat the chicken in Self raising flour before browning it in butter Tash. It was all I had the first time I came up with the recipe and it came out amazing!

Question….        I’m not a fan of honey really, so silly question but does it taste like honey? Xx

Answer…           You can taste the honey but I think if you used more brown sugar it would cover it up a bit.

Question…        I couldn’t find any light soy sauce.. How much normal soy sauce should I put in? Same amount or a little less?

Answer…          Maybe half of what is suppose to go in but add more honey to make up for less liquid.

  1. I made this tonight and it was a great consistancy but way to much soy, it looked more like honey soy chicken. What can I substitute the soy with so it actually looks golden rather than brown. Could only just taste the honey.
